I am grateful to have shared this Homily and reflection at Saint James, Ormond Beach, Florida today as a supply priest for their Rector, Fr Roy Allison.
I see my preaching as “just one beggar telling another where to find bread.”
The Gospel lesson of Jesus calming the storm is a beloved and deep well of life giving hope and wisdom. I focused on the invitation of Jesus: “Let us go across to the other side.” In some ways that short phrase describes the spiritual life. Jesus is always taking us across to the other side – to new ways of believing, seeing, thinking, acting, new ways of being and relating to others, new ways of living, loving, and trusting.
Ultimately, the “journey across to the other side” is the journey of change, of growth, of ongoing transformation into Christlikeness. This is the great adventure of life: seeking to follow Jesus and his way, to become like him. One final day, we will cross over to the other side into Another Kind Of Life. What an adventure awaits us!
